Mountain Ranges

Turquino National Park is located in Santiago de Cuba Province, southeastern Cuba. The park is situated within the Sierra Maestra mountain range that runs westward across the south of the old Oriente Province in southeast Cuba, rising abruptly from the coast.

The Sierra Nevada de Güicán, El Cocuy and Chita are located within the Cordillera Oriental range of the Colombian Andes.  El Cocuy National Natural Park protects its extraordinary biodiversity and endemism and its function as a corridor for migratory species.

Jamaica's Blue and John Crow Mountains encompass a rich cultural and natural heritage mosaic. They served as a refuge for indigenous peoples and, later, the Maroons. This UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Park boasts exceptional biodiversity, with unique plant and animal species in its montane rainforests. Conservation efforts protect this ecologically significant area, preserving its beauty and cultural legacy for future generations.

The Chilean Coastal Range is a massive mountain range that runs parallel to the Andes Mountains along the Pacific coast of South America. It spans across 14 regions of Chile. The Chilean Central Valley is a fertile basin that stretches from the Peruvian border to Puerto Montt in southern Chile and serves as the backbone of Chile's agricultural productivity and urban development.

Running parallel to the Pacific Ocean, the Peninsular Ranges System is a remarkable series of coastal mountain ranges that form the backbone of the Baja California Peninsula in northwestern Mexico. This rugged geological feature spans from the international border with Southern California to the peninsula's southern tip, showcasing diverse ecosystems, geological formations, and endemic species.

Stretching across northwestern Argentina, the Sierras Pampeanas, also known as the Central Sierras, present a mesmerizing tapestry of geographical features, flora, and fauna. This expansive mountain range rises abruptly from the surrounding Pampas region, extending parallel to the towering Andes Mountains. Encompassing seven Argentine provinces, the Sierras Pampeanas region is characterized by its rugged terrain, diverse ecosystems, and rich biodiversity.

The Serra Geral, an imposing escarpment nestled within the interior of southern Brazil, is a testament to the region's geological complexity and ecological richness. From its eastern reaches in Rio Grande do Sul to its northern extent in São Paulo, this mountain range is a pivotal component of the Serra do Mar system. Within this landscape lies the Serra Geral National Park, established to preserve the region's natural heritage and encompass iconic landmarks such as the Malacara, Churriado, and Fortaleza canyons.

The Venezuelan Coastal Range, also known as Cordillera de la Costa, is a mountain range that runs parallel to the northern coast of Venezuela. Sometimes referred to as the Maritime Andes, the range is a northeastern extension of the more extensive system of the Andes Mountains.
